On the 31 of july 2001 in Turin was constituted the Promoting Committee for the scientific research and the care of the inflammatory bowel diseases, based on a collaboration and a project designed and produced by:

• Ospedale Mauriziano di Torino (Gastroenterology division) 
• Università degli Studi di Torino (Gastroenterology and Gastroepatology divisions)
• A.M.I.C.I. Piemonte (IBD association)

The Promoting Committee for the scientific research and the care of the inflammatory bowel diseases was composed by these members:

The purposes of the Promoting committee , similars of thoose of the IBD Onlus Foundation were:

• The promotion of research an assistance projects on the regional territory
• The implementation of activities oriented at favour the formation and information in the IBD domain
• The support of scientific initiatives in the IBD domain

Between the first activities of the Promoting committee there ware the planning and the presentation of a research and assistance project in the IBD Domain (Compagnia di San Paolo, projects).

Between the most demanding activities carried out by the Promoting Commitee there was the involvement of public corporations with interest in the IBD domain :

• Associazione Italiana Gastroenterologi Endoscopisti Ospedalieri (AIGO)
• Gruppo di Studio Malattie Infiammatorie Intestinali (GSMII)
• Università degli Studi di Torino
• Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo
• Some pharmaceuticals firms (Giuliani, Sofar, Schering-Plough)
• AMICI Piemonte e Valle d'Aosta
• ASO Ordine Mauriziano

During this time two others ambitious research and assistance’s projects were developed and promoted by the financials authorities (more details about the content and the progress of this work are showed in the projects section).

At the beginning of 2003 at the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo was presented a wide research, training and assistance project in the IBD field named “Life’s quality and study of the genotype-phenotype relations in the IBD “.

This project was also submitted to an accurate revision process and at this moment was financiated only for his first year of execution .

During the 2003 was also promoted and presented by the Giuliani SpA another research and clinic assistance project entitled “Innovative scans and endoscopic image techniques in the IBD” .Also this project was integrally financiated.

In addition the Promoting Committee promoted and organized the sixth and seventh edition of the Maria Tilde Fiorentini awarded on november 2004 and 2005 to scientific works of particulary interest .This award was instituted in memory of Dr.ssa Maria Tilde Fiorentini, part of the IBD staff of the Mauriziano hospital , promoter of various activities in this field and passed out on September 1998.

On the 31 of July 2005, the IBD Onlus Foundation was instituted - (Fondazione Piemontese per la Ricerca Scientifica e la Cura della Malattie Infiammatorie Croniche Intestinali) .

The IBD Onlus Foundation was constituted by:

The purpose of the IBD Onlus Foundation is the promotion of research and the improvement of the life’s quality and cares offered to IBD’s patients .

The efforts’ union of different components ( hospital and universitary’s strucutures, patient and sponsor’s accociations) should guarantee different approaches in order to reach that objectives.

The institutional aims are the followings:

• Sensitize the public opinion about the IBD , spreading medical and social culture about these diseases
• Help the research in order to find new knowledge and treatments about the IBD
• Contribute to the medical and nursing training in order to improve the therapeutic offer in the region
• Contribute to the technologic improvement, through the buy of clinical ,scientific and diagnostic strumentation
• Finance important and signiificant research projects
• Contribute to the institution of a regional disease register

Since july 2005 the foundation, through acts of his executive board , obtained:

• A fiscal position (C.F. 97666670019)
• The inscription on the Fondazioni Onlus’ register
• The opening of a bank account (Unicredit Banca, Agenzia 38 di Torino, cc 40365253)
• The starting of the foundation’s recognizing process to the Regione Piemonte (started on May 2005)
• The contact with the authorities for the identification of the candidate’s names for the position of board of directors’ member

During the first semester 2006 should be given the recognition of the Regione Piemonte .
After that recognition the administration body of the IBD Onlus Foundation could be formalized and the research and assistance activities could restart.
